am i in a rut?

so ...seems like i have snagged quite a few end tables lately...am i in a rut? i think not! look how amazingly different each one is! cream/black/marble/distressed/hardware/carving...it all varies drastically!! :) as i post this little beauty, i have decided that i may have discovered another career path to becoming rich and famous that does not include always wearing my "grubbies" and having my friends giggle at spots of paint i have neglected to wash off as we're out in public together. what is that career path? you ask? well...as i look at this photo, i realize that you can X out red eye, you can crop in a square, you can change the lighting, but no one has come out with the "crumb crop". see all those crumbs under the darling table???? well why the heck won't my photo program allow me to x those puppies out like i can red eye??? why can't i crop in a U shape to scoop them out??? and surely i'm not the only person needing to crop out the ocassional crumb or ginormous dust bunny! so my advice would be to buy this darling piece while i'm still doing furniture....cause who knows when my "crumb crop" will take off... :) or i guess i could just sweep...

i think this is adorable!!! i love the curves and the little pedestal that connects the two pieces. it's the perfect height for a couch or chair (i personally think it's too low for a bedside table - but if you're wanting your dog to be able to reach everything it may be perfect for you) :) looks cute in the family room here - but would also be darling by a chair in your bedroom. one of a kind little thing - don't you think you need it??

So this post is a thank you post to Amy Anderson - my mod podge hero (heroine? that always sounds like drugs to me). she featured one of my pieces on her blog today. incredibly exciting for me!!!!! yee haw!!! i LOVE mod podge and her site is amazing! way inspiring...makes you want to go work on a project right now!!! she has some of the best ideas and her before and after shots are sooooo fun! i've laughed with her about the fact that i used to giggle about my mother using mod podge but now i lay awake at night stressed when i am running low and wondering why it isn't sold in the gallon size. HA! (amy says it is!) anyway.... you should check out her blog- course remember that no matter what amy says on her blog, using mod podge is very very tricky and not something you should try unless you are a trained professional...like myself. (will that stern warning keep you all from trying things on your own so you have to keep purchasing from me???) hee hee

it's dresser time again!

cream dresser - distressed - antiqued - there are 5 drawers (count up from the bottom with me - those first three are normal, then there's one that looks like two, and then there's the little one at the top) i am including a close up shot so you can see the distressed and antiqued look AND so you can see that i have branched out (no pun intended) and instead of a little BIRD (now get the pun?) as an accent - i have ..... a butterfly ..... oooooo i am SO versatile!!

this is just an fyi post

no furniture on this post - just a little bit of information....i had previously announced on my blog that i think chalkboards could play a role in bringing about world peace....well....as much as i love chalkboards, i have found where i draw the line...this was in a crafty little newsletter i receive and i thought - "oh my - spraying a pumpkin with chalkboard paint and then trying to write on that ever so NOT smooth surface is indeed where i draw the line!" just wanted you to know that i do occasionally have a wee bit of sense. (now i have offended everyone who is rushing out to spray their pumpkins and write little messages on them, haven't i????)

thrrough the eyes of a child

creamy white distressed end table with gorgeous carved detail - and that carving is on all four sides. very pretty little piece!!!

so there's a song by air supply (how old does it make me if i used to listen to and love air supply? anyone else willing to admit that or are you too chicken?) anywho - they have a song i love called the eyes of a child - it talks about how you can see hope and laughter as you look in the eyes of a child. well sometimes i do....and then sometimes i see someone i'd like to strangle :) and then sometimes i see someone that just makes me really happy. today my four year old emma made me really happy! how? let me waste some more of your time by giving you two examples....

#1 - i did not pay attention to the gas gauge as i was running errands today and when i looked down i was startled to notice that i was running on fumes! i talk out loud to myself (i've tried to stop and i can't) so emma heard me talking about running out of gas. well daddy just did that at emma's preschool (he's gonna LOVE that i mentioned that on my blog!!) and it was a big hairy deal!!! daddy was not happy so neither was anyone around him!!! based on that experience, emma was NOT looking forward to running out of gas. so = bless her heart = she asked me if she could say a prayer for us to get home. well obviously i didn't say no....so here was emma's prayer to help us through this little struggle:

"dear heavenly father- please help mom get gas - amen"

does that sound hysterical to anyone else???

example #2 - i am selling this end table i am posting right now, and em has seen me arrange things for a photo so she asked if she could "fix it up for the picture" i told her sure. she would carry something over and put it on the table and then say "no, that's not right" or "no, that isn't what it needs" (things i say 100 times every time i do this) and after about 5 minutes (which is a long time for a four year old) this is what she came up with. (see the last photo!!) a bag of animal crackers and a roll of toilet paper. the table was sitting on dad's side of the bed and she was so so proud - she told me "mom - it's everything daddy needs!"

today...it was easy to see that joy in the eyes of a child!

charming end table!

isn't this adorable???? it's a broyhill piece of furniture - two drawers and it's charming! carved detail on either side of the drawers and really cool legs/feet. it's cream and distressed and would make a wonderful bedside table - or i actually have it in my hallway at the end of the hall upstairs (cause i wasn't quite ready to make my bed and we can't have THAT in a picture!!!!). really sweet piece of furniture!

I'm thinking my favorite part of this post is my dead ivy draped ever so artistically over the top of the cabinet. see how it adds just the right touch? ha!

this is an antique piece - really cool carved legs - one long drawer and then two shelves inside - the glass was broken out of the door when i found her - but i actually see that as a plus - no need to keep things lovely or even neat inside now - just fill her and close her up! my kinda storage!! :)

i think this is such a restful bedroom set. get it? rest-ful? REST-ful ? my family doesn't get me either...oh well... i DO think this is a peaceful, restful bedroom set. set includes:

so let me just take a minute and explain what kind of immense work is involved in taking pictures like this - you need to spend a little more time looking at these photos!

first - tom and i don our hard hats as we contemplate entering our 15 year old's room. (she's the one with a queen bed so we can stage this) as we enter i discover that her method of cleaning up lately has been to make stacks of things - and i realize that there are about 47 stacks of clothes, school supplies, beauty aids and misc debris all around her room on the floor. after moving these piles to the closet, i personally am ready for a nap - but we have work to do! and need to do it quickly as the closet door - where we moved the 47 stacks = will most likely blow off the hinges at any given moment and we don't want to be in the room when that happens!

so next i realize that in order to get a halfway decent photo we need to move the bed to the other wall ( i made her a WAY cute headboard out of wallpaper - you should try it sometime - but it cannot be "moved" - hence the reason for moving the bed). this requires taking things off the wall - and at this point - very conveniently - my spouse recieves a phone call for work. :) well =long story short (or is it too late for that? ha ha) i remove all the stuff hanging on the wall, move the bed to that wall (discovering in the process about 49 MORE piles under the bed!) and set things up - realizing as i do that i need to replace the wall hangings that show in the photo and take down and replace the curtains with something more neutral. can you even believe the lengths i go to to get a picture of the pieces i complete? can you begin to understand the depths of despair i feel after i go to all the trouble and none of you BUY the piece????? can you see that i would need to be medicated afer a couple of weeks of my incredibly difficult work sitting in the basement??? at some point during the moving and tugging and pulling tom almost always asks why i had to do the daggum furniture....why couldn't i just crochet stuff? LOTS easier to move around!!! ha! and today.... i asked MYSELF why i wasn't just makin' doilies!!!!

unique side table/plant stand

so last time i posted a plant stand i was embarrassed to discover that i have no plants. it was tricky to stage a plant stand when one owns no vegetation other than the plethera of weeds in the now overtaken landscaping (actually who am i kidding - i don't even think it could be called landscaping any longer! it's just a weed patch. -does it count that the weeds are healthy??) so i decided to focus on this little guy as a side table. a unique - beautifully carved side table. a distressed, antiqued stunning little end table. an awesome piece for almost any home! and as you can see...no live vegetation required!

so i am figuring that after looking at this several of you will decide i have no class or taste whatsoever, remove yourselves from the "followers" list and tell your friends i need some therapy...but i was at a thrift store yesterday and i found a patient hospital cart. it was silver and rusted on the bottom and the lovely brown top we all know and love from being in the hospital giving birth to something or for more serious stays...

i thought to myself...hmmmm....i am gettin' pretty tired of holding my laptop, or stretching over to the nightstand, or laying it beside me and leaning sideways or trying to balance it on a lap desk...so i brought that hospital cart home.

after scrubbing and spraying the base and painting and sealing the top...

viola - a perfect place for my laptop as i sit in bed and post things for you to praise and purchase! perfect? yep! cause there is enough room for my laptop....AND a whole plate of food right beside it! (or at least some killer snacks!) hee hee

i have included a photo of my husbands laptop - just carelessly tossed on his nightstand - taking up lots of room and having to be hoisted on and off of his lap each time he needs to use it - ever so inconvenient! in fact - he has ordered a cart like mine (minus the flowers of course to preserve his manhood!) :)

so i found this adorable sofa table and fell in love with the carved detail - after painting, distressing and antiquing i loved it even more - but decided it deserved something better than the chipped glass that came with it...so i went shopping...and couldn't decide!!! i found three very different color schemes that i thought looked pretty with the cream. what to do... well i happened to meet two new friends that day (hey heather and jan!!!) and they suggested that i post it with the three different options and let YOU decide!! DUH! what a great idea!! (sometimes i'm pretty slow - but i can learn!) so here are your options:

basic black (how could that NOT be one of the choices, right?) black and cream floral - and in the photo the table is actually used as a sofa table

green - i loved this pattern - very classic design (and in this photo the table is in the entry way - great way to display special photos and have a place to throw your mail and keys when you come in) and last option:

this is an absolutely beautiful twin bed. solid wood - painted black - distressed - includes headboard, footboard and side rails (i tucked in my daughter's quilt so you could see the side rails in the picture - i think they are so fun! the twists on the spindles are so pretty. this really is a piece that will last for years! very classic - and even tho it's black it works for a girls room (like you see here - can't argue with how stunning that is, can you?) or would work in a boys room too! (i am always so excited when i do something that could work for a boy!!)
